University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) Department of Theatre invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre – MovementSpecialist to begin academic year 2018-19. The position requires a terminal degree in acting or related field and expertise in an established methodology ofmovement (or combination of methodologies), and university teaching experience or equivalent. Additional requirements: excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills; interest in curriculum development and academic leadership; and a commitment to increasing the representation of underrepresented voices in theatre. Secondary expertise in another area of performance is preferred. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the position includes a full university benefits package.

This full-time, nine-month appointment requires a combination of teaching, service, and research/creative work. The successful candidate will teach theatre andmovement courses, serve as movement coach for UMBC productions, and contribute to academic advising, committee service, student recruitment, and related activities. UMBC is a Carnegie Research University – High Activity institution: tenure-track faculty are expected to develop research/creative work that leads to a national reputation in their field, and institutional support and mentorship is provided. UMBC is located near theaters in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., where many faculty contribute to professional productions.

The Department has approximately 125 majors/minors and offers a B.F.A. in Acting, and a B.A. in Theatre with concentrations in Design & Production or Theatre Studies, all taught within new, state-of-the-art facilities. UMBC Theatre productions have received numerous KC/ACTF awards and national festival invitations.
