NORTHWEST ASIAN AMERICAN THEATRE CELEBRATES ITS 30TH BIRTHDAY WITH GALA BENEFIT

The Northwest Asian American Theatre (NWAAT) will mark its 30th Anniversary Year with a Gala Dinner and Silent Auction on Thursday, November 7, 2002 at the House of Hong Restaurant in Seattle's International District.

Founded in 1972, NWAAT is one of the oldest operating Asian American theatres in the nation. The November 7th Gala will recognize the theatre's achievements over the last 3 decades and will also honor Tama Tokuda for a life-long contribution and participation in the arts.

The entertainment for the evening will also include performances by members of the Washington Chinese Youth Orchestra and by vionlist Andrew Sumitani, winner of the 2002 Federal Way Symphony's Young String Soloist Competition.

NWAAT is one of the oldest theatres in the U.S. dedicated to seeking out, developing, promoting and producing Asian Pacific Island (API) American artists. Through its work the Theatre will: educate and entertain all audiences regarding the API American experience, develop API youth participation in the arts, and create a better understanding and appreciation of global API arts and artists.

Over 30 years NWAAT has produced innovative and original plays and youth workshops, supported emerging visual artists through our RAW Visual Arts Gallery located in the lobby of our theatre, created an annual festival of new performance works, and presented interpretations of familiar plays, like West Side Story and The Fantasticks that explore the American experience through an API lens.

NWAAT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The proceeds from the dinner and auction will go towards supporting the Theatre's general operations. Tickets are $60 per person or $600 for a table. You may purchase Gala tickets by calling Bea Kiyohara at (206) 322-5995.
