Colorado’s Theatre Esprit Asia (TEA) Announces Two Assistant Artistic Directors

Theatre Esprit Asia – TEA, the award-winning theatre company founded in 2012, announces with great pleasure the addition of two Assistant Artistic Directors: Rob Payo and Peter Trinh. Together with Artistic Director and Founder Maria Cheng, they will serve, uphold and promote the three-fold mission of TEA, the Southwest’s only Asian-American theatre company:

– Give voice to contemporary Asian-Western narratives through play productions
– Provide professional opportunities to Asian-American theatre artists
– Create better understanding and social change amongst Asian sectors and between them and the culture at large

Robert and Peter will be acting in the upcoming TEA/Vintage Theatre’s co-production of The Oldest Boy opening at the Vintage on September 16, 2016. With Maria, all three will produce, act, direct and write TEA’s upcoming Coping with America, opening April 28, 2017.

Robert Payo is a Philippine-American stage actor, singer and producer. His recent acting credits include Vintage’s Snow Falling on Cedars, In the Heights and Miss Saigon and TEA’s One Night of Thunder, amongst over twenty other productions with numerous theatre companies. At TEA, besides functioning as an Assistant Artistic Director, Robert will also be the Director of Operations, overseeing all administrative responsibilities. Robert has worked at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science for fifteen years and currently serves as Coordinator of Teacher Programs.

Peter Trinh is a Vietnamese-American actor of stage and film and also a playwright and stand-up comedian. TEA audiences have seen him starring in three solo productions: Dust Storm, Occidental Moon and Coming to America: Boat Person. Most recently Peter was part of the ensemble cast of The Aurora Fox’s Arabian Nights. At TEA, besides functioning as an Assistant Artistic Director, Peter will also be Director of Marketing/Publicity and Website/Social Media Maintenance. Peter’s past work experience includes administration, public relations, marketing, and event planning.

Says Maria Cheng, “The artistic and administrative leadership of TEA will be significantly enhanced by the presence of Robert and Peter. They bring not only their formidable artistic talents but also a wealth of administrative experience and a huge commitment to the vision and growth of TEA. Yay, hooray and welcome aboard!”
