Ma-Yi Theater Company welcomes new staff members Chris Ignacio as Associate Producer, and Charlie Read as Communications Manager.
Chris has been an active performer and educator in New York and abroad since graduating from the Boston Conservatory. His work encompasses puppetry, music, voice and movement, and he is typically seen performing in New York’s downtown theater scene. He is humbled to expand his reach in the theatre by working with Ma-Yi, a company he’s admired since he joined one of its shows. As a Filipino-American theatre artist, he hopes to continue the crucial work that Ma-Yi is doing, forging paths for underrepresented communities to establish a serious presence in New York theatre and across the country. http://chrisignacio.com/
Charlie is an art director and textile designer and has been providing design and marketing services to Ma-Yi since the early 90’s when he lived in New York. Since 2000, he has lived in Florida and Atlanta. “It was a great opportunity for me to come back to New York and join the staff full time as Ma-Yi folks are some of my best friends and we have such a great working relationship. I have a lot to learn, and I’ve always felt honored to be a part of such an talented, important and ground-breaking group.”
Charlie and Chris are currently busy organizing The Ma-Yi Theater 18th Anniversary Gala and planning the upcoming main stage season starting with KPOP, an immersive new musical in partnership with Ars Nova, and Woodshed Collective.
