AAPAC Releases 2017-18 Report
The Asian American Performers Action Coalition (AAPAC) has released its latest report on representation on New York stages. THE VISIBILITY REPORT: RACIAL
REPRESENTATION ON NEW YORK CITY STAGES covers employment statistics by race for actors, playwrights, composers, librettists and directors for the 2017-18 season for all of Broadway and the 18 largest non-profit theatre companies in New York City. It is the only publicly available report of its kind.
Hard facts and figures document the sad state of BIPOC theatre artists. Almost all BIPOC stories are told by white directors. White actors are over-represented on NY stages. And Asian American actors are the least likely to be cast in a non-ethnic specific role (i.e., the scripts has to specifically call for an Asian actor before they can get cast).
The 96-page report is available freely for download on their site.
