VACT Donna Yamamoto To Retire

VACT Donna Yamamoto Led for Ten Years

VACT Donna YamamotoIn an email to VACT patrons, after ten years at the helm of Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre, Donna Yamamoto is retiring as Producing Artistic Director at the end of 2022. Always the consummate planner, Donna has been working on her succession plan for the past three years, ensuring vAct will continue to thrive while preparing to pursue some of her other passions once again, such as performing on stage and travelling the world on international tours.

A Look Back

Donna’s leadership has been invaluable in vAct’s development from a community based semi-professional theatre company to an award winning, nationally recognized, fully professional theatre company. Not only has her keen business sense and professionalism placed vAct in a well-respected position in the Canadian theatre landscape, but her outgoing personality, warmth and caring for everyone she works with has created an extraordinary sense of community with everyone at vAct, from the Board of Directors to staff, artists, volunteers, donors, and audiences alike. Donna has made everyone feel welcome and in doing so, has helped shift the ecology of Vancouver theatre.

A Message from Donna

“It’s been a fantastic 10 years. My time at vAct has been one of the most rewarding and fulfilling times in my life. vAct’s mandate to give voice to a community I care so deeply about and who deserve to be seen on our stages has inspired me every day and the work we’ve done together these past years has made me immensely proud.  The company has never been stronger and so now is a good time for me to pass the torch to someone new who can take vAct forward to even greater heights.

It’s really been a dream to work at this company, most especially because of all the amazing people I’ve had the privilege to work alongside, connect with, and share great art with across the country.  I look forward to working with the new Artistic Managing Director during the upcoming transition year and getting to witness vAct’s continued growth in the future.”

Next Chapter

vAct has begun the search for a new voice to take up the baton, to guide the company as it continues to grow, develop new Asian Canadian works, and showcase the many varied Asian Canadian talents on our stages. The posting for a new Artistic Managing Director is now live here. The incoming position will be able to work alongside Donna during a transitional year as she shares her knowledge and experience through the development and production of many exciting upcoming projects.
