Historic Tony Awards See Maybe Happy Ending Win Six Tonys
Asian Americans were seen aplenty clutching Tony Awards this year as eight awards went to Asian American and related artists! The leader is the Korean first, English second musical Maybe Happy Ending, which won six awards including Best Musical and Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical (Darren Criss!). This was bookended with Best Actress in a Leading Role Role in a Musical, as Nicole Scherzinger repeated her London win for Sunset Boulevard (Filipino talent represent!). And let’s not forget Francis Jue’s win as Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play as Henry Y. Hwang in David Henry Hwang’s Yellow Face.
