East West Cast for MAN OF GOD
East West Players (EWP), the nation’s longest-running professional theater of color and the largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work, is pleased to announce the cast and creative team for the world premiere of Anna Moench’s Man of God. Directed by Jesca Prudencio, Man of God begins performances on January 31 and runs until February 24, 2019, with opening night on February 7, 2019.
A hidden discovery in a hotel bathroom changes the lives of four Korean Christian girls on a mission trip to Thailand. Samantha is hurt that someone she trusted could betray her. Jen is worried about how this might affect her college applications. Kyung-Hwa thinks everyone should adjust their expectations. Mimi’s out for blood. Amid the neon lights and go go bars in Bangkok, the girls plot revenge in this funny, feminist thriller.
“Man of God is a wickedly funny, timely, feminist thriller that investigates issues of faith and sexuality,” says EWP Producing Artistic Director Snehal Desai. “It’s a world premiere of a bold and brave voice that fearlessly investigates faith, power, and gender politics in the era of the ‘Me Too’ movement.”
Making their EWP debuts are Katherine Ko (Tong in San Diego Repertory’s Vietgone) as Kyung Hwa, SunHee Seo as Samantha, Sandy Nguyen as Mimi, Michele Selene Ang (Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and CBS’s Elementary) as Jen, and Roy Vongtama (Ovation Award-winning Watching O.J. and Ezekiel Theater’s Son of Man) as Pastor.
The creative team includes Jesca Prudencio (Director), Andy Lowe (Fight Director), Justin Humphres (Scenic Designer), Rebecca Bonebrake (Lighting Designer), Howard Ho (Sound Designer), and Brandon Hong Cheng (Stage Manager).

East West Players is thrilled to include Man of God as part of Culture Shock, a 53rd Anniversary Season that is about disrupting the status quo and taking charge of the “outsider” narrative.
East West Players (EWP), the nation’s longest-running professional theater of color in the country and the largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work, was founded in 1965, at a time when Asian Pacific Islanders (APIs) faced limited or no opportunities to see their experiences reflected outside of stereotypical and demeaning caricatures in the American landscape. EWP not only ensures that API stories are told, but works to increase access, inclusion, and representation in the economy.
