Double Vision BOOK, MUSIC, AND LYRICS BY OLIVIA POPP

CHICAGO (September 29, 2019) — Double Vision, a new sci-fi comedy musical, makes its Midwest premiere at the 2020 Chicago Musical Theatre Festival. An original show of galactic proportions, Double Vision turns musical theatre on its head with science fiction inspirations, queer- and POC-centered narratives, and an 80s rock-inspired score.

The cast features Ryan Frenk, Jennifer Ledesma, Gina Martin, Ethan Carlson, and Brian Pember.

The creative team includes direction by Zach Barr, music and vocal direction by Justin Cavazos, stage management by Erin Collins, and graphic design by Olivia Sy.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Olivia Popp (Book/Music/Lyrics)
Olivia Popp is a writer and artist based in the Bay Area and a student at Stanford University. She has studied with Straight White Men playwright Young Jean Lee and Pulitzer finalist Amy Freed, and her work was performed at the Kennedy Center in 2015. Olivia served as the 18/19 Artistic Director of the Stanford Asian American Theater Project. One day, she wants to create the perfect cult TV musical.

Zach Barr (Director)
Zach Barr is a freelance director and critic working in the Chicagoland area. He serves as the Literary Associate at Sideshow Theatre Company. He recently directed Littlebrain Theatre’s Bicycle Thieves, part of RhinoFest 2019. Other projects include work with Otherworld Theatre Company, The Agency Theatre Collective, Kokandy Productions, and Studio East (Kirkland, WA). Zach is a graduate of Northwestern University.

Justin Cavazos (Music and Vocal Director)
Justin Cavazos is a Chicago-based singer, actor, and guitarist. He served as Music Director and Arranger for Stanford Mixed Company. He has performed in Chicago with Pride Films and Plays, Music Theater Works, Transgressive Theatre-Opera, and Porchlight Music Theater. Justin continues to write and arrange music for a cappella voices, rock band, synthesized instruments, and more.

Erin Collins (Stage Manager)
Erin Collins is a proud graduate of The Theatre School at DePaul University, where she received her BFA in Stage Management. Erin spent her first six months post-grad as part of the production management team for the shows on Celebrity Cruises’s newest ship, the Celebrity Edge. Most recently, she stage managed Vision Productions’s benefit performance of The Trial of Faith and NoMads Art Collective’s production of Mr. Kotomoto is Definitely Not White. Some of Erin’s favorite stage management credits include Growing Up Blue; Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play; Michael Jordan in Lilliput; and We Are Proud to Present (The Theatre School).

Olivia Sy (Graphic Designer)
Olivia Sy is a creative designer and illustrator in Los Angeles, CA who strives to communicate purpose beyond craft. In all her projects, she aims to thread human narratives with social impact, working with past clients such as the Downtown Women’s Center, PeaceJam, AIDS Life/Cycle and her mom. She’s often found hiking with her camera, over-analyzing films with strangers, selling her stickers and sipping coffee with her plants.
