Finance Associate Needed
Silk Road Rising is a Chicago-based, community-centered artmaking and arts service organization rooted in Asian, Middle Eastern, and Muslim experiences. Through live theatre, digital media, and arts education, we challenge disinformation, cultivate new narratives, and promote a culture of continuous learning.
FINANCE ASSOCIATE
Silk Road Rising seeks to expand its administrative team with a contract Finance Associate to work 20 – 35 hours per month (avg. 25 hours/month). We welcome applicants who are excited about applying their skills to advancing our mission of amplifying Asian, Middle Eastern, and Muslim voices. We are seeking a candidate who has at least two years of experience in a financial role in a nonprofit setting.
Nearly all of the work is desk-bound and can be performed remotely, with periodic meetings at our downtown Chicago office, or virtual meetings, depending on circumstances. The Finance Associate reports directly to the Co-Executive Artistic Directors and works with the Development Associate and program area managers.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare cash flow models and forecasts
Prepare draft annual budget for the organization
Work with program area managers to draft annual program/production budgets
Oversee quarterly allocation of shared operating expenses and prepares journal entries Produce quarterly and annual financial statements and supplemental reports
Monitor expenses and revenues and alert Co-Executive Artistic Directors and program area managers of variances
With support from Development Associate, prepare financial reports for grant-supported projects and direct release of temporarily restricted funds
Review administrative service contracts and recommend renewals or modifications
Process invoices for designated payments, provide occasional back-up for processing of invoices for payment typically handled by Associate Producer
Provide occasional back-up for processing of payroll
Review, revise, and maintain internal accounting controls and procedures
Manage Accounts Receivable
Reconcile all bank and credit card accounts
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum 2 years of experience in a financial role in a nonprofit setting
Will consider candidates with less nonprofit experience who have a minimum of three years of combined experience in corporate and nonprofit settings
For candidates with primarily corporate experience, experience as a general accountant, cost accountant, budget analyst, and/or financial reporting specialist are preferred
Government contracts and/or grants experience required
Advanced spreadsheet skills (Google Sheets)
QuickBooks experience preferred
EDUCATION
Degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or education equal to two years of professional training in finance and/or accounting
PAY
$1000.00 monthly stipend; estimated 20 to 35 hours per month (avg. 25 hours per month)
