James and Sumi Washington fell in love when he was a young GI serving in Japan 37 years earlier.
But when his retirement from the Army changes their daily lives, James finds his marriage to Sumi unraveling. Can a new life routine (which includes James volunteering at a local community center and Sumi exploring the art of pottery) help them repair what is broken and save what is worth keeping?
Yohen is a Japanese pottery term which refers to an “accident in the kiln firing that results in transformation of the pot.”Come join us for this exploration of love, marriage, aging, cultural/racial bridges and the beauty that comes from creating your own art and your own life.
All proceeds for Yohen will benefit Tacoma’s new Bryant Neighborhood Center, which will begin building in the Summer of 2018. The Bryant Neighborhood Center’s mission is to build community and provide services and support to the surrounding neighborhood.
