2Tounges in the Springtime...

wassup ya'll!
peace + blessings...and happy April!

this is going to be quite a lengthy update so bare with me on this
much-overdue newsletter/update/calendar.

it's been so far an amazing journey for the 2Tongues family and it's nice to
know we are not traveling alone. first and foremost--from all of us, thank
you for the tremendous outpouring of donations, condolences, flowers, cards
and warm thoughts for david kim. we know he is safe.

there is so much to share with all of you so we're just going to pack it
into this email update...please take the time to read as much as you can.
we'll break it up into little chunks to help your mind digest it all.

we are finally having a local show here in chicago with all 4 of us plus
darius (our bassist). don't miss it. it's part of the Asian American
showcase 2001 feature at the Madbar--a homecoming of sorts on monday april
16th. see the details below and come out and support us!

oh--don't be shy, let me know if you want OFF this list and/or are getting
duplicates. otherwise, thank you again for all your support

ohhh......and we just got a guestbook up so get to our site
and send us a message.

so here it is...

in struggle and in madness,

--->> belated THANKS
MAASU: this was one of our bestest shows ever and one of the most organized
conference we've ever been too. thank you so much to all the beautiful
people who gave us so much luv and energy during our performance--we didn't
even have to ask for it. even when we thought you couldn't give anymore you
still managed to reach deep inside your pockets and contribute to the hat we
passed around to send our isangmahal youth slam team from seattle to the
national youth slam! you all reminded us why we are proud to call the
midwest our home! special thanks to annalisa, chrissy & eric for taking care
of our crew. additional thanks to golda and nadia for helping me out with my
'lola' poem.

isangmahal + the youth slam teams:
over this past weekend we got to experience another phenomenon in the poetry
scene and another revolution in the making. teens as young as 13 took to the
stage in ann arbor and taught everyone especially the adults a valuable
lesson about love and the word. all the teams were amazing but our hearts
went to the Seattle team--coached by the Isangmahal Arts Kollective. After
tremendous struggle to physically get to ann arbor, then having to push
there way thru all the bullshit of the slam competition, and further having
to pick up their tears, disappointments and hearts from the floor--the
Isangmahal team came together to teach everyone a valuable lesson!
they inspired other teams to reject the scoring process and in the end
reject the divisive nature of the slam competition. instead they created
unity, love and hope. the all filipino team broke it down to everyone and
reminded peeps that the bottom line in our art is Love--there is no art
without love---of self, of family, and of community.

maybe you had to be there but the bottomline is best conveyed from a line by
a young teenage poet from the chico team---"poets will make God wake up".

(thanks also to emily lawson and the UofM FASA kids for taking care of all
of us while we were there)

and a vibrant community to be a part of.

Where: Atomic Kitchen World Headquarters
346 N. Justine St, Suite #406
