Second Generation Seeks One-Act Plays For Production Consideration
Second Generation is seeking one-act play manuscripts now through December 15, 2007 for possible production in the Spring/Summer of 2008.
Second Generation (2g) is a non-profit theater company, dedicated since 1997 to bringing Asian American stories to the world's stage. 2g has developed and produced dozens of new plays by emerging Asian American playwrights, with workshops, readings and full productions hosted by some of New York's most venerable theatrical institutions, including the Public Theater, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, New York Theatre Workshop, the Culture Project, HERE Arts Center, and others.
Selected manuscripts will receive full production in a proposed four-week run of a one-act play program, dates and location to be determined. Authors will receive stipend and other contractual renumeration to be negotiated, in accordance with Equity Showcase Code (status pending).
Submission Guidelines:
Manuscripts should be original, unproduced one-act plays written specifically for the stage. Plays should be between approximately 10 to 45 minutes in length. Previously submitted plays and multiple submissions are welcome.
Mailed manuscripts should be bound, on letter-size 8.5" x 11" paper in a readable font, with a title page containing all relevant contact information for the author and/or author's representative. Email submissions should allow for printing in this format.
Please include a resume and cover letter with your submission, including all previous development, readings and/or productions, if applicable, of the submitted work. If there are any options, rights or other contractual obligations related to the submission, please provide all pertinent details in your cover letter.
Although we are specifically seeking plays by writers of Asian descent, we have no limitations on technical or artistic modes of expression, and therefore do not impose any requirements in terms of form, style, genre, or theme. We are not limiting our interest to plays that specifically address "Asian American issues", or some broad notion of "The Asian American Experience". As an arts organization dedicated to providing a platform for the diversity of experience within our community, we have no interest in defining or limiting the scope of what that "experience" might be. So please don't worry about such formal restrictions, and simply send us work that matters to you. Regardless of whether or not it is selected, it will matter to us as well.
While we take great care in reviewing all submitted materials, we regret that we may be unable to respond to all submissions in a substantive way. Please Note: Due to new postal restrictions, we will no longer be able to return any mailed scripts you provide. Should you wish to pick up your script following our review, please so indicate in your cover letter. Otherwise, we will recycle all submitted materials at the end of our review process.
