About the OrganizationAsian American Arts Alliance is dedicated to strengthening Asian American arts & cultural groups in NYC through funding, visibility initiatives, and access to new resources. We are a diverse alliance of artists, organizations, and individual supporters who believe that working together as a pan-ethnic, multidisciplinary community is essential to nurturing the development of artists and arts organizations, and to providing a political voice for this community.Position DescriptionThe Program Director is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of all artist-focused programs of the Asian American Arts Alliance, including those that offer artists and arts groups access to funding, professional development and networking opportunities, and other resources. Position reports to Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage core programs as well as design new initiatives to continually improve the delivery of the Alliance’s mission.
  • Evaluate and report on programs on a regular basis.
  • Create, track and report on budgets.
  • Supervise program staff (currently one Program Associate and 1-2 interns); oversee and coordinate contracts with outside consultants as needed.
  • Work closely with fundraising and marketing staff to develop and promote programs.
  • Coordinate regrant programs including annual review and revision of guidelines and application form, overseeing outreach to applicants, convening and facilitating decision-making panel, assisting applicants with questions about the program, and overseeing notification process.
  • Provide individual technical assistance to applicants and grantees.
  • Oversee special research project designed to gather data about the financial status of Asian American artists and groups; serve as liaison to project consultant; and participate in project research and implementation.
  • Develop content and oversee logistics for series of panel discussions, professional development workshops, and member artist roundtables.
  • Oversee administration of the membership program and provision of benefits to member artists and arts groups, in conjunction with the marketing staff.

Qualifications

The position requires a highly organized and creative individual who shares acommitment to the arts and/or Asian American community organizing, and is interested in working closely with artists. The successful candidate should have at least five years of programming experience in the arts, including some managerial experience; and some knowledge of artist and/or organizational issues. Experience providing technical assistance to artists or small non-profits is preferred. Candidates with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a collaborative working style, and the ability to take initiative and handle multiple projects and deadlines, are encouraged to apply.Compensation is commensurate with experience.
