AATC issues casting call

San Francisco&Mac247;Asian American Theater Company is immediately seeking designers (set, costume, lighting, sound) for production, and actors to audition for the play titled The Clouds, the Ocean and Everything in Between by 18 Mighty Mountain Warrior writer Michael Premsrirat directed by Marc Hayashi. The play will have it&Mac226;s run at New Langton Arts, 1246 Folsom Street, San Francisco in May-April. Positions for designers are immediately available.

The Clouds, the Ocean and Everything in Between is a story about life and death, love and loss, history and philosophy, remembering and forgetting. What do you do when you're caught in between a heritage from which you feel increasingly disconnected and a nation by which you aren't entirely accepted? You buy a six-pack of Guinness, a carton of cigarettes and create your own space in a hostile world. Winner of East West Players Y2K New Voices Playwriting Competion, "Clouds..." will World Premiere at New Langton to kick off AATC's year long residency at the performance space.

AATC is hiring for the following positions:

  • Set Designer
  • Costume Designer
  • Lighting Designer
  • Sound Designer

AATC is casting for the following roles:

  • Male: Mixed Asian (Hapa) aged 20-25
  • Female: Asian 20-25
  • Female: Mixed Asian/Caucasian 20-25
  • Male: Caucasian/Hispanic/Mediterranean mixed 25-30

Auditions will be held Saturday March 10, 2001 at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California, 1840 Sutter Street (between Webster and Buchanan) in conference room 1 from 2pm to 7pm. Please be available the entire time. Please bring headshot and resume and two short contrasting monologs. Contact AATC by email or by phone to sign in and register.

Asian American Theater Company was founded in 1973 as a playwrights&Mac226; workshop sponsored by the American Conservatory Theater. The company is dedicated to the production of New American plays by dramatists of Asian Pacific Islander descent. Throughout its history, AATC has served as a home for numerous Asian Pacific American playwrights, directors, actors and designers, including Frank Chin, Margaret Cho, Dennis Dun, David Henry Hwang, Philip Kan Gotanda, Amy Hill, Momoko Iko, R.A. Shiomi, Wakako Yamauchi and Judi Nihei. Now in its 25th Anniversary Season, AATC is poised to chart new directions for Asian Pacific Islander American theater arts into the new millennium.
