Asian American Theater Company's Fall Classes

To continue fostering new talent in Asian Pacific American theater, the Asian American Theater Company, with noted AATC Alumni, is offering the following classes for its Fall 1998 Series:

IMPROVISATION - Judi Nihei/Jim Cranna, instructor. 4 sessions 11/10, 17, 24 & 12/1

Judi and Jim, formerly with National Theatre of the Deranged, offer this class especially for AATC. Judy is the dramaturg for THE SISTERS MATSUMOTO, was Artistic Director at Seattle's Northwest Asian American Theater, and has also taught Acting. Jim has worked with actors such as Robin Williams, Kelvin Han Yee, and Byron Yee. Learn the basics of improvisation, scene partner techniques, and relationships with other characters. Four Tuesdays, 7-9pm, @ JCCCNC $120/$135 nonmembers.

ACTING AND VOICE- Mitzie Abe, instructor. 4 sessions 11/10, 17, 24 & 12/3

Realize the potential of the actor's most important tool: the voice. Learn breathing techniques, how to use the voice theatrically, and working with your script. Four Tuesdays, 7-9pm and Thursday Dec. 3, 7-9pm @ JCCCNC. $120/$135 nonmembers.

PLAYWRIGHTING - Jeannie Barroga, instructor. 4 sessions 11/12, 19 & 12/1, 12/3.

Jeannie has been produced nationwide and twice at AATC: EYE OF THE COCONUT, and WALLS plus is published in anthologies of Asian-American Women Playwrights. RITA'S RESOURCES was produced Off-Off-Broadway in 1996. Developed as a playwright herself in AATC workshops in the late 80s, learn now from her to shape working drafts in a creative and nurturing atmosphere. Re-examine tools and crafts. Instructor encourages class interaction besides offering individual comments. Four sessions 6-8:30pm @ 20th Avenue. $120/$135 nonmembers.

Class size is limited to 10 students.
