ASIAN STORIES IN AMERICA (ASIA) PROUDLY INTRODUCES ITS NEW COMPANY MEMBERS

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA: Edu. Bernardino, Artistic Director of the newly-formed ASIA recently introduced to the local theatre community its new company members. Joining Bernardino and Stan Kang, who also serves as Managing Director, to form ASIA's company are actors Strawberry Catubo, Judy Chen, Helen Cheng, John Guzman, Michelle Hall, Michael Miyazaki, MiRan Powell, Yasmin Tuazon, Al Twanmo, Miyuki Williams and Yan Xi. Lending their talents to the company as Artistic Associates are Kang, Williams and sound
designer/muscian Ron Oshima.

ASIA's current season has included staged readings of Genny Lim's Paper Angels and A Small Delegation by part-time local playwright Janet Neipris. Directed by Stan Kang, Paper Angels had its single-night performance at the Clark Street Playhouse, the home of the acclaimed Washington Shakespeare Company of which Bernardino, Kang and Williams are also company members.

A Small Delegation, directed by Lee Mikeska Gardner and presented in conjunction with the The Studio Theatre Secondstage Readers&Mac226; Theatre Series, had a successful run of six performances last month at Secondstage in Washington, D.C. The reading also generated a two-page spread writeup with photographs in the Metropolitan Times section of The Washington Times titled "Acting Inroads for Asians".

ASIA hopes to mount two full-stage productions for the upcoming season, the first in the fall and a second one early next year. The planned plays will be formally announced in May.
