CALL FOR ARTISTS: AARGH!! APA cabaret

July 7, 2009

Impresario and writer/performance artist Ken Choy is seeking singers, musicians, performance artists, dancers, comics, and other performing artists for AARGH!!, an Asian Pacific American cabaret/showcase planned for October/November in Los Angeles.  Specific dates and details to follow.  Initial call is to gauge interest as plans are being settled.

AARGH!! was conceived and presented in the Twin Cities by hosts poet/performance artist David Mura and Ken Choy presenting emerging and established performing and visual artists in a cabaret/showcase setting.  Performing to sold-out houses, the cabaret paved the way to introduce up-and-coming artists as well as provide a testing ground for known performers to experiment with other artistic expressions.  Choy now brings AARGH!! to Southern California.

Interested performers should send a bio and/or resume pasted into the body of the email as well as a synopsis of the planned performance.  Additional materials will be requested.  Please do not send attachments initially.  Correspondence should be addressed to aarghcabaret@gmail.com <mailto:aarghcabaret@gmail.com> .  Please join the Facebook group (AARGH!! Asian Pacific American cabaret) for up-to-date details and information.

As this is a community-based event, an emphasis will be on performers who show openness and initiative in giving back to their community.  Performers should also be able to promote themselves and/or have an audience base.

Approximate performance lengths (subject to change): new artists will be given 10 minutes to perform; established and headlining artists 15 minutes.  Timing will be strict, and performers will be cut off should they run overtime since the cabaret will be renting a theater.  Simple to little tech requirements.
