Bindlestiff seeks Artistic Director
POSITION: Artistic Director (Part Time)
JOB SUMMARY:
Guided by Bindlestiff Studio's mission, the Artistic Director (AD) provides leadership in all aspects of the theater's artistic planning and program development, which includes performance scheduling, workshop coordination, artistic mentorship, community outreach, public relations, and long-range planning. The AD will serve as an integral part of the Management Team, which is comprised of the Executive Director (ED), the Managing Director (MD) and the AD. The team is responsible for the theater’s overall venue management, fund development activities, and community relations. The AD, with support from the MD, will supervise and mentor the Production Team (PT), and oversee the theater's volunteers and interns. The AD will also assist with the ongoing New Theater Capital Campaign, which is expected to run until the completion of the new 6th Street facility in 2007. The AD will have the unique opportunity to shape the growth of Pilipino and Filipino American performing arts during this exciting period in the theater's professional and organizational development.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Curating monthly/yearly calendar of events. These events may be structured around stock productions, including Stories High, The Queue, PiNoisePop, and the Pansinema Film Festival.
- Developing and scheduling ongoing workshops and classes as part of the yearly program, which include the Stories High Theatrical Workshop and The Queue Filmmaking Workshop.
- Identifying and developing programming paths via workshops, collaborations, and community outreach to cultivate the artistic needs of the Theater's constituency.
- Coordinating publicity (e.g., press releases) via email, Web, publications, and other media with PT for all performances, productions and workshops.
- Research and identify potential grants to sustain position.
- Conducting grant writing and fundraising activities in collaboration with ED, MD and volunteers.
- Representing the Theater professionally and responsibly at community events, organizational meetings, and public functions.
- Working closely with the MD to supervise and train volunteers and interns.
- Attending Board Meetings to provide updates on programming.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum 4 years solid experience with arts organization(s).
- Minimum 2 years experience supervising staff or managing arts related projects.
- Strong background in the performing arts, as well as a deep and diverse understanding/appreciation of multiple artistic disciplines and genres.
- Exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking, presentations, and writing.
- Demonstrated ability to organize workload, and maintain several projects of equal priority at once.
- Proven ability to work with multiple and diverse cultures.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with board, staff, volunteers, and members of the general public.
- A person of integrity, honesty, high energy, creativity, and good humor who respects and encourages those qualities in others.
- A good knowledge of Bindlestiff Studio, its constituency, the community that surrounds it, and the history under which it has developed.
TERMS OF POSITION:
- Part Time (20 hrs/wk), $15,000 - $17,000 DOE with potential for growth and full-time employment.
- 12-month guaranteed commitment.
