THE COALITION OF ASIAN PACIFICS IN ENTERTAINMENT (CAPE) TEAMS WITH FOX ENTERTAINMENT GROUP TO DISCOVER NEXT GENERATION OF ASIAN PACIFIC WRITERS

Submissions Now Being Accepted for the 8th Annual New Writers Award With Increased Cash Prize

Los Angeles ˆ February 14, 2007 ˜ The Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE) Foundation, Inc., a non-profit arts and entertainment organization, and Fox Entertainment Group (FOX), announces a call for submissions for the 8th annual CAPE Foundation New Writers Award (CFNWA). Selected winners, in both Film and Television categories, will receive an impressive cash prize of $4,000.

„FOX continues its commitment to diversity by sponsoring the CFNWA since its inception. FOX supports CAPE‚s dedication to nurturing the talented writers who have emerged,‰ said Jerry Jacobsen, director of diversity development, FOX Entertainment Group.
„The CAPE Foundation New Writers Award is an opportunity to cultivate talent as well as be an outlet to discover new Asian and/or Pacific Islander writers and voices,‰ said Adele Yoshioka and Jusak Yang Bernhard, co-presidents of CAPE. „We have continually been impressed by the caliber of screenplay and television script submissions we have received in recent years and are pleased to increase the cash award to the deserving winners.

‰The first Screenwriting Award was given in 1999 and the first Television Writing Award presented in 2001. Previous winners include filmmaker Alice Wu (SAVING FACE) and Young Il Kim, whose winning script HYUNG‰S OVERTURE was optioned by producer and CAPE Board of Advisor member, Teddy Zee (PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS). The CFNWA will again be co-chaired by Leo Chu (head of animation/executive producer-Spike TV/MTV Networks) and Angela Cheng Caplan (literary manager, Cheng Caplan Company).

Winners of the CAPE Foundation New Writers Award will each receive a cash prize of $4,000, Final Draft software, a staged reading of their script and opportunities to meet/pitch to a panel of seasoned entertainment executives.
CAPE‚s Board of Advisors include distinguished executives and artists such as Ang Lee, John Woo, Terrence Chang, Dean Devlin, Warrington Hudlin, Lou Diamond Phillips, Richard Sakai, B.D. Wong, Chris Lee, Fritz Friedman, Janet Yang and Teddy Zee.

All entries must be submitted and postmarked by May 25, 2007. Submissions should be consistent with the goals of the CAPE Foundation, including the promotion of the interests of Asian Pacific Islanders in the entertainment industry.
