Casting Call for Gus Lee's China BoySend written submissions only to: Casting has begun for a Feature film titled China Boy that will be shooting in San Francisco this summer or fall 1998. China Boy is based on Gus Lee's (Kai) own story growing up in a rough neighborhood in San Francisco This film starts off with Mah-mee leaving China in 1943. The rest of the characters are seen starting in 1951 in San Francisco. Character breakdown to follow: KAI Chinese boy. Age 6-8 years old. He is the title character. He must be very APPEALING with a face and personality that immediately captures an audience. MAH-MEE Chinese woman. has to be drop-dead gorgeous. She starts out at 29 and ends up at 38. She can have a slight accent (she comes from China at the age of 29 but is well educated in English) but we might go without an accent if we find the right person. She's a very loving person. FATHER Chinese man. He is Mah-Mee's husband, who will be 35 and then 40, and must be very handsome. He's from the military so he needs that kind of bearing. UNCLE SHIM 60 to 65, A Chinese elder, very wise and a great teacher, with much nobility about him. MRS. CHENG Chinese woman, age 35 or so - has to be equally beautiful as Mah-Mee, but where Mah-Mee is a very loving person, Mrs. Cheng is a dragon lady. MR. CHENG Chinese man age 55-60. Obviously much older than his wife. He's a business man. TOUSSAINT African-American boy. He's Kai's best friend. Age 6-8.Toussaint is a tough street fighter but also has a loving nature.
