Submissions Now Being Accepted for the 9th Annual New Writers Awards

Los Angeles - January 21, 2008 - The Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment (CAPE) Foundation, Inc., a non-profit arts and entertainment organization, and Fox Entertainment Group (FOX), announces a call for submissions for the highly recognized 9th annual CAPE Foundation New Writers Awards (CFNWA). Selected winners, in both Film and Television categories, will receive an impressive cash prize of $4,000.

"FOX continues its commitment to diversity by sponsoring the CFNWA since its inception and supports CAPE's dedication to nurturing the talented writers who have emerged," said Mitsy Wilson, senior vice president of diversity, FOX Entertainment Group.

"The CAPE Foundation New Writers Awards is an opportunity to cultivate new Asian and/or Pacific Islander talent and hear the voices of their experience," said Adele Yoshioka, president of CAPE.

"We are continually impressed by the caliber of screenplay and television script submissions we have been receiving in recent years," states Angela Cheng Caplan, literary manager of the Cheng Caplan Company and co-chair of the NWA.

The first Screenwriting Award was given in 1999 and the first Television Writing Award presented in 2001. Previous winners include filmmaker Alice Wu (SAVING FACE) and Young Il Kim, whose winning script HYUNG"S OVERTURE was optioned by producer and CAPE Board of Advisor member, Teddy Zee (PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS).

The CFNWA will again be co-chaired by Leo Chu (executive producer, Spike TV and Nickelodeon) and Angela Cheng Caplan (literary manager, Cheng Caplan Company).

Winners of the CAPE Foundation New Writers Awards will each receive a cash prize of $4,000, Final Draft software, a staged reading of their script and opportunities to meet/pitch to seasoned entertainment executives.

CAPE's Board of Advisors include distinguished executives and artists such as Ang Lee, John Woo, Terence Chang, Dean Devlin, Warrington Hudlin, David Henry Hwang, Lou Diamond Phillips, Richard Sakai, B.D. Wong, Chris Lee, Fritz Friedman, Janet Yang and Teddy Zee.

All entries must be submitted and postmarked by May 30, 2008. Submissions should be consistent with the goals of the CAPE Foundation, including the promotion of the interests of Asian Pacific Islanders in the entertainment industry. Finalists will be notified by August 2008.
