A (gulp) 20 year retrospective for David Henry Hwang at NYUHwang is Artist-in-Residence at NYUs Asian/Pacific American Studies Program The evening will begin with a selection of performances from David Henry Hwangs work. These readings will feature excerpts from: Performed by actors including members of the original New York casts: Tony award-winner B.D.Wong, John Rubenstein, Randall Duk Kim, Tina Chen, Ching Valdes-Aran, and Tony nominee Julyana Soelistyo. Conversation between Hwang and Frank Rich of the New York Times will follow the performances. The evening will conclude with a screening of A&Es 1982 television version of The Dance and the Railroad, starring John Lone and Tzi Ma, directed by Emile Ardolino. DATE: November 14, 2000 David Henry Hwang is the Asian/Pacific American Studies Institute Artist-in-Residence for 2000-2001. While in residence, Mr. Hwang will participate in special class lectures, faculty working sessions as well as public programs. David Henry Hwang is a dramatist, best known as the author of M. Butterfly, which won the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play. For his most recent play, Golden Child, he received a 1997 Obie Award and a 1998 Tony nomination. His other plays include F.O.B. (1981 Obie Award), The Dance and the Railroad, and Family Devotions. He is currently represented on Broadway as co-librettist of Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida. Hwang has written screenplays for the feature films M. Butterfly and Golden Gate and is the recipient of many grants, including fellowships from the Guggenheim and Rockefeller Foundations. He serves on the Presidents Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, among other civic organizations.
