Diverse City Theater Presents Three One-Act Plays About Women and Their Generation in Snapshots

Diverse City Theater Company ("DCT") announces the roster of its August 2007 presentation, Snapshots directed by Gregory Simmons and running August 16th to September 1st, 2007, at Theatre Row's Beckett Theatre located at 410 West 42nd Street in New York City. Recipient of the 2006 Disney Cast Community Fund Award for its critically acclaimed production of FOUR PLAYS: The Equality Playwrights Festival , DCT dedicates its upcoming production to the late Founder and Former Artistic Director of Ensemble Studio Theatre, Curt Dempster.

This year, DCT turns its attention to women in their 50s, 70s and 90s. Snapshots is a presentation of three one-act plays about five women and their generation:

• COLLEEN IRELAND by Stuart Harris:  Colleen, a 95-year old woman living in an assisted-living home, receives a surprise visit from her great granddaughter;
• THE “A” WORD by Linda Faigao-Hall:  A mother is confronted by her son about her past;
• THE END OF CIVILIZATION AS WE KNOW IT by Lydia Stryk:  Two women, who share a common secret, attend their grandson’s wedding.

"We are excited to present these original, extraordinary plays about five women, each from her own generation, grappling with universal issues of aging, identity and family. These are provocative and poignant plays about mature women rarely seen onstage today," said Victor Lirio, DCT's Artistic & Producing Director. He adds: "This year, we also pay tribute to Curt Dempster who championed our company since its inception. He was a creative force ... a great artist whose legacy continues at DCT and among our artists."

Gregory Simmons, who will direct all three one-acts, returns to DCT this summer after having directed two DCT productions: Tennessee Williams's I CAN'T IMAGINE TOMORROW in "3 by Tennessee" (March 2007, Ensemble Studio Theatre) and Joe Byers's VEILS in FOUR PLAYS: The Equality Playwrights Festival (August 2006, The Harold Clurman Theatre). His work has been seen at Playwrights' Horizons, The Studio Theatre, The Abingdon, The Westbeth, The Neighborhood Playhouse's "A" Train Plays, The Present Company, American Academy of Dramatic Arts, among others.

On Broadway, Simmons played Paul in Lincoln Center Theater's production of John Guare's SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION opposite Stockard Channing; Roger in Howard Korder's SEARCH & DESTROY with Griffin Dunne; and The Queen in the New York premiere of Tennessee Williams's NOT ABOUT NIGHTINGALES, which starred Sir Corin Redgrave and directed by Trevor Nunn. He has performed extensively in resident theatres across the country, including The Guthrie, Arena Stage, and recently, at ART in Christopher Marlowe's DIDO, Queen of Carthage, directed by Neil Bartlett.
