Award-winning Playwright Cassandra Medley to Open 2006 Series on Monday, October 23rd at 7PM Playwright Cassandra MedleyDiverse City Theater Company ("DCT") announces Green Room Series ("GRS") 2006, a festival of staged readings featuring original plays that portray social diversity from various cultural perspectives. The series will present five full-length works during October, November and December 2006 at the New Georges at 520 Eighth Avenue, 3rd Floor, in New York City. Suggested donation $10. DCT is an independent not-for-profit theater company based in New York City. It recently produced the acclaimed August 2006 summer theater festival of one-act plays on gender identity at Theatre Row's Clurman Theatre, "FOUR PLAYS: The Equality Playwrights Festival." DCT's GRS 2006 will open with Cassandra Medley's NOON DAY SUN, WINNER OF THE 2001 THEATREFEST AWARD, directed by David McRee. The play is a poignant story about an African-American woman passing for white in the 50's. Medley, whose recent hit at Ensemble Studio Theater's First Light Festival, RELATIVITY, was a 1986 recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts Grant and was awarded a New York State Council on the Arts Grant for 1987. She was a 1989 finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Award in Playwriting, won the 1990 National Endowment for the Arts Grant in Playwriting, and the 1995 New Professional Theatre Award, the 1995 Marilyn Simpson Award, and was a 1994 finalist in the Eugene O'Neil National Playwrights Conference.
