East West presents Year of the DragonTHE YEAR OF THE DRAGON GRACES Frank Chins epic drama, The Year of the Dragon, directed by Mako will once again grace the stage at East West Players. The play first premiered at the old Santa Monica stage in 1974 with much controversy and enormous uproar. The production begins previews January 25 with the opening scheduled on January 31. The production runs through February 25, 2001. Despite his contempt for them, San Francisco Chinatown tour operator, Fred Eng, presents a comically stereotypical persona to his customers. On the home front, things are driving him crazy, too. Freds dying father reveals that he has another wife in China and is bringing China Mama, to the U.S. much to the shock of Fred's mother and the rest of the family. Freds middle-class sister is of no help and neither is her China-crazy husband, Ross. Little brother Johnny is a Chinatown street kid and is getting into some serious trouble. This is a rich, fast-paced comedy with a menacing edge. The cast members are Keone Young, Dana Lee, Mimosa, Trieu D. Tran, Momo Yashima, Shizuko Hoshi and Brian Mulligan. The set is designed by Yoichi Aoki with costumes by Dori Quan. The lighting is designed by Frank McKown and sound by Miles Ono. The stage manager is Ricardo Figueroa.
East West Players is located at the David Henry Hwang Theater at the Union Center for the Arts, 120 Judge John Aiso St. (formerly San Pedro St.), Los Angeles, California.
