WRITERS INSTITUTE SPRING SESSION BEGINS APRIL 1, 2006
Join the most active Asian Pacific American playwright development program in the country, which has nurtured works produced and read at theatres nation-wide. Classes meet in downtown Los Angeles. Dates and instructors are subject to change.
Some scholarships are available to those who qualify, and discounted enrollment fees are available to EWP ACTS members (to learn more about ACTS, click HERE). EWP has recently changed its scholarship application guidelines. Please click HERE for deadlines and additional information.
SPRING PLAYWRITING WORKSHOP
This 15-week workshop is designed to help new and experienced writers start or develop new plays into scripts that are ready to be put on stage. Each 3-hour session will include: a warm-up writing exercise, discussion of everyone’s work progress, reading and discussion of 3 or 4 works in progress, reading assignments from dramatic literature to illustrate and inspire writers with their work, and a closing exercise to focus on the next week’s work.

Doris Baizley, playwright, is a founding member of LA Theater Works (originally Artists in Prison) and has worked at the Mark Taper Forum as a member of the LA Writers Workshop, dramaturg for the Other Voices Program for playwrights with disabilities, and for seven years was resident playwright for the Taper’s ITP Company for young audiences. She has conducted playwriting workshops at East West Players, LA TheaterWorks, and UCLA Extension.
