East West Players presents the world premiere of Motty-Chon by Perry Miyake

East West Players, the nation‚s premier Asian American theatre organization, closes its historic 40th Anniversary Season with the world premiere of Motty-Chon by Perry Miyake, directed by Alberto Isaac, from May 10-28, 2006.

Martin is 48-years old, single, works a dead-end job and lives at home with his aging Nisei parents. His bachelor status is the perfect target for his meddling parents and their gossip-hungry friends. Then Gina, a white, 24-year old pierced and tattooed gothic chick enters Martin's life. What's a parent to do? Motty-Chon is a comedy that shatters stereotypes about parental expectations and the search for love. Founding Artistic Director Mako and Shizuko Hoshi return to the East West Players' stage as Martin's parents, Mits and Helen.
"On the occasion of our 40th Anniversary, we are honored to have Mako celebrate East West Players‚ achievements by performing in our final production of the season. His tremendous work with East West Players has left a memorable impact on the organization," said Tim Dang, East West Players Producing Artistic Director. "As part of our 40th Anniversary celebration, we wanted to have a world premiere that was representative of the work we do. It is a play that is culturally specific in its telling and innate behavior ˆ intergenerational and familial, funny yet poignant, and most of all, universal."
