East West seeks playwrighting teacher

EWP is looking for a playwriting teacher/workshop leader for our David Henry Hwang Writers Institute. Working playwrights are especially encourage to apply, though we will consider anyone who loves and has knowledge and experience in the art. We encourage people of all ethnic backgrounds to apply, but knowledge of Asian American theatre is also a big plus!

The David Henry Hwang Writers Institute is a 20-week writing program that culminates in readings of each writer's work at EWP. Each workshop meets weekly for three hours, generally on Monday nights from 7:15 to 10:15, or Saturday mornings, from 10 am to 1 pm. Instructors provide writing exercises and comment on the work done in class; about half of the time is devoted to work that the writers have done in the week previous. Writers "cast" their work from the available writers in the room, who read the material cold. Instructors provide dramaturgical feedback and help guide writers to a completed work. Next session will begin in July and will run into December 2000.
