East West Players accepting scholarship applications for 2006-2007 arts education classes

East West Players, the nation’s premier Asian American theatre organization, is accepting scholarship applications for acting classes in its Actors Conservatory and playwriting workshops through its David Henry Hwang Writers Institute. Artists who wish to pursue the performing arts as a career, as well as individuals seeking personal creative exploration are encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted until May 31, 2006 for all classes taking place September 1, 2006 – August 31, 2007.

“The scholarships are important in keeping our classes accessible to talented students who may not be able to afford them. Through the generosity of our funders and donors, this is an investment in the future of East West Players as these future artists will one day continue the organization’s mission and work,” said Tim Dang, East West Players Producing Artistic Director.

Actors Conservatory scholarships are made possible by the Beulah Quo Endowment for Theatre Education, named after an Emmy Award-winning founder of East West Players and supported by the organization’s donors. There are three scholarships available for classes such as the Fundamentals of Acting series, Beginning Scene Study, Advanced Scene Study, Audition and Marketing, and an On-Camera Workshop. Contact Arts Education Director Marilyn Tokuda at (213) 625-7000 x15 or mtokuda@eastwestplayers.org to apply for the Actors Conservatory scholarships.

The David Henry Hwang Writers Institute scholarships are made possible by the James Irvine Foundation. There is one scholarship available for each of the Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer sessions. Awardees also receive mentorship by East West Players Literary Manager Jeff Liu. To apply for the David Henry Hwang Writers Institute scholarships, contact Jeff at (213) 625-7000 x27 or jliu@eastwestplayers.org.

Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 30, 2006.
