Join the most active Asian Pacific American playwright development program that has nurtured works produced and read at theatres throughout the country! The 6-month Summer/Fall edition begins in September and will culminate in public readings of the works developed. Classes meet in Studio City. Dates and instructors subject to change.
PLAYWRIGHTING, instructor Judy Soo Hoo
Starting Wed., Sept. 4 from 7-10 pm
Award-winning playwright and DHHWI alumnus Judy Soo Hoo (TEXAS, REFRIGERATORS, TWICE TOLD CHRISTMAS TALES, 29 &Mac184; DREAMS) was a winner in our 1996 New Voices Playwriting Competition and is a 2000 PEN West Emerging Voices Fellow. Through writing exercises and feedback from other writers, students will work on one-acts and full-length plays. Topics discussed include: narrative authority, pressure, urgency, textuality and the torque of a play.
SCREENPLAY, instructor Kris T. Young
Starting Tues., Sept. 3 from 7-10 pm
Popular instructor Kris T. Young who earned his BA in film from USC, his Masters in screenwriting from UCLA and has been a working screenwriter for the past 20 years leads ScreenPlay. He has taught screenwriting at Visual Communications and the Los Angeles Film Studies Center. He believes writing is fun torture and will conduct his class accordingly.
