Application for EWP's David Henry Hwang Writers Institute

Join the most active Asian American playwright development group in the country! Institute writers have been produced at EWP, NWAAT, AATC, SDAART, Lodestone, Playwrights Arena, and other theatres around the country. Institute writers have been PEN West Fellows, and have won numerous playwriting awards and contests, and many recent alumni will be produced all over the country in this upcoming year.

Award-winning playwrights Paula Cizmar (STREET STORIES), Alice Tuan (IKEBANA), and Kelly Stuart (DEMONOLOGY) help you find and hone your voice. The Y2K session of the Writers Institute will begin January 10 and will run for 20 weeks. Writers will concentrate on writing exercises and discussion of structure, character, dialogue. Each week, writers will bring in work to be read, and will be given guided writing exercises, and we will focus on producing material for the reading series that ends this session. By filling out the attached application, you become eligible for this upcoming session. Please include a $25.00 check (non-refundable deposit) written to East West Players (be sure to write "DHHWI" on memo line of check):

2.) A writing sample (from any style--prose, poetry, pages from a script) of no more than two pages.

3.) A resume or short bio.

4.) A statement of your expectations and goals for your writing in these classes.
