Filipino singers/actors wanted

Ralph Pena is helping David Byrne and Marianne Weems cast their new project.  They are looking specifically for Filipino singers, especially the two females identified below.  The play will go to the Adelaide Festival in 2006, the Liverpool Biennial, various European festivals, before opening as part of BAM's Next Wave Festival in 2007.  It's a big exciting project.

Please send this out to all the Pinoy singer/performers you know.  They're less interested in "Broadway" types -- and more in people who can do pop.  The music will be a collaboration between David Byrne and Fat Boy Slim.

They would like to start seeing people at the end of July (this month). Auditions in NYC for East Coast people. West Coast people send contact information, resume and headshot to this email, or to:

Here Lies Love (working title)
A Theatrical Music Event by David Byrne
Directed by Marianne Weems

A performance created for presentation in a dance club setting, Here Lies Love will be based on the phenomenon of Imelda Marcos, international jetsetter, alleged victim, grieving widow and avid shoe collector. Created by composer/songwriter/artist David Byrne, and directed by Marianne Weems, Here Lies Love will focus on the heady and delusional years of power when Imelda and Ferdinand Marcos were regulars at Studio 54.

Here Lies Love’s other design collaborators are currently being identified. Through a series of songs written by David Byrne, with musical tracks supplied by Fatboy Slim (Norman Cooke), Imelda will meditate on events in her life –from her childhood spent in poverty through her rise to power and her ultimate demise. In particular, we will look at the relationship between Imelda and a servant from her childhood, Estrella Cumpas, who has appeared at key moments in Imelda’s life. A chorus of 5-6 singers will backup Imelda, and will embody everything from her entourage at Studio 54, to her gang of “Blue Ladies”, to the people of Manila. David Byrne will not participate as a performer in the performances, although he may make occasional guest appearances.
