Kumu Kahua Announces 2014 Playwriting Contest Winners

HONOLULU, HI - Kumu Kahua Theatre and the University of Hawai'i at M?noa Theatre and Dance Department proudly announce the winners of their 2014 playwriting contest.

The winner of the $600 Hawai'i Prize is Susan Soon He Stanton of Aiea, Hawai'i for her play: Seek.

Mike Lee of Brooklyn, New York is the winner of the $450 Pacific/Rim Prize for his play: Tiger Style.

Kimeul DeMoville of Ewa Beach, Hawai'i is the winner of the $250 Resident Prize for his play: Deaf in One Ear.

Three judges, selected by Kumu Kahua Theatre, evaluate the plays and rank them in each category; from that ranking winners are chosen. To assure anonymity, all plays are submitted under pen names. Kumu Kahua productions are supported in part by The State Foundation on Culture and Arts through appropriations from the Legislature of the State of Hawaii and by the National Endowment for the Arts. Also paid for in part by the taxpayers of the City & County of Honolulu; the Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts; The Hawai'i Tourism Authority; McInerny Foundation (Bank of Hawaii, Trustee); Hawaiian Electric Company; The Star Advertiser; and other Foundations, Businesses and Patrons.
