AUDITIONS SET FOR KUMU KAHUA’S PRODUCTION OF EDWARD SAKAMOTO'S MAHALO LAS VEGAS
A sequel to his Aloha Las Vegas, Edward Sakamoto’s Mahalo Las Vegas follows the same cast of characters after the big move to Las Vegas. Wally Fukuda has left Hawai‘i and is living happily ever after in Vegas until circumstances shift and new variables are introduced. Wally's son and daughter-in-law have moved out of his home, replaced by California Harry, a luckless gambler who is hiding out from his creditors. Wally's daughter and her husband visit from Hawai‘i, bringing some surprises. And a reluctant Wally and Harry are pursued by two tenacious women, one the widow of a mob boss.
Rehearsals begin as early as July 17. Performances will be August 26 through September 25, with the possibility of a week's extension. Director Harry Wong is seeking a local actress to complete the ensemble. She needs to play between ages of late forties to late fifties.
Auditions will be held at the Kumu Kahua Theatre, on the corner of Merchant and Bethel Streets, from 10am to Noon on Saturday, July 15, and 7pm to 9pm on Sunday, July 16. The entrance into Kumu Kahua Theatre is from the small park on the Merchant Street side.
Actors may audition on either day, but should come early and stay as long as possible. Auditions will consist of readings from the script, simple movement work and some improv. Actors should dress comfortably.
