Kumu Kahua opens their 37th season in quintessential Kumu fashion with Bryan Hiroshi Wake’s irreverent comedy Ala Wai at Kumu Kahua Theatre, 46 Merchant Street in downtown Honolulu, running from August 23rd through September 23rd.

Bertram and Ernesto are two roommates who suddenly find themselves jobless and homeless. Ernesto has a drug habit and Bertram has an irrational but intense fear of tilapia.  This fast-paced pidgin comedy turns surrealistic when Bert is stung on his privates by a portuguese man-o-war and miraculously acquires the ability to heal wounds…and clean up the waters of the canal. Will Bert use his new powers benevolently, or will greed prevail?

Kumu favorite BullDog will direct this wacky comedy, with set design by Bart McGreehon, light design by Gerald Kawaoka, and costume design by Nara Cardenas.  The cast features Kumu veterans, Jarod Bailon, Daryl Bonilla, Eddy Gudoy, Ron Encarnacion, Denise Aiko Chinen, D. Tafa‘i Silipa and Kumu newcomer Eve Yeung.
