KUMU KAHUA THEATRE & UHM THEATRE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES PRIZE WINNERS IN 2013 PLAYWRIGHTING CONTEST

HONOLULU, HI Kumu Kahua Theatre and the University of Hawai'i at M?noa Theatre and Dance Department proudly announces the winners of their 2013 playwriting contest.

The winner of the $600 Hawai'i Prize is E. Thomalen of Towson, Maryland for his drama, The Night Watchman.

Lauren Yee of New York, New York is the winner of the $450 Pacific/Rim Prize for her play The Tiger Among Us.

Susan Soon He Stanton of Aiea is the winner of the $250 Resident Prize for her play Furball.

Three judges, selected by Kumu Kahua Theatre, evaluate the plays and rank them in each category; from that ranking winners are chosen. To assure anonymity, all plays are submitted under pen names.

Kumu Kahua productions are supported in part by the State Foundation on Culture and Arts through appropriations from the Legislature of the State of Hawaii and by the National Endowment for the Arts.
