Kumu Kahua Theatre Becomes A Living Art Gallery In Lee A. Tonouchi’s Da Kine Space
HONOLULU, HI: Da Kine Space by Lee A. Tonouchi will have its world premiere at Kumu Kahua Theatre, 46 Merchant Street in downtown Honolulu, from January 13 through February 13, 2011.
In Lee Tonouchi’s Da Kine Space you will meet Cy, a failed artist frustrated by his life and relationships, and Jader, a wannabe filmmaker with some odd ideas about art. As Cy and Jader confront the creative process, pop culture, the generation gap and more, the theatre becomes a living art gallery in this innovative new comedy. Lee A. Tonouchi, the author of Living Pidgin and Gone Feeshing, brings his sharply-honed pidgin and offbeat sense of humor to this wry study of art and life in contemporary Hawai‘i.

Jason Kanda will direct the production, with set design by Donald Quilinquin, lighting by Daniel Sakimura, costumes by Nara Cardenas, props by BullDog and Stage Manager is Lanaly Cabalo. The cast features: Marcus Lee, Jabez Armodia, Nani Morita, Dawn Gohara, Chevy Martinez, Ryan Sutherlan and Stephanie Keiko Kong.
Kumu Kahua Theatre is an air-conditioned, intimate 100-seat performance space; Patrons are strongly advised to purchase tickets in advance as individual performances do sell out. Performances are at 8pm Thursday through Saturday, and at 2pm on Sunday afternoons.
