Letters to a Student Revolutionary in StocktonIn its 8th consecutive season, Asian American Repertory Theatre proudly announces the opening of Letters to a Student Revolutionary by Elizabeth Wong. This is a play about two women, one Chinese the other Chinese American. The story follows the two girls' friendship through their ten-year correspondence period culminating at the time of the Tienanmen Square uprising. The story tells of the girls' similarity in race, gender, and youth, while their differences in social climate, personality, and personal freedoms comes out through their correspondence. In effect, the women serve as mirrors to their respective societies, reflecting the gap between them in ideology and reality from the perspective of individuals who neither hold power nor possess great ambition. They simply have one wish which is to have choices in their lives. Steven Sue, Executive Director of AART, will direct this exciting production. This play will be staged at the Manlio Silva Auditorium at A.A. Stagg High School, 1621 W. Brookside Rd. in Stockton. Performances begin with a "Pay as You Can" performance on Thursday, July 23RD at 7:30 p.m. Opening night is Friday, July 24, 1998, closing night August 8, 1998.
