Mu Performing Arts to move to Saint Paul Lowry Building

(Minneapolis – June 10, 2009) Mu Performing Arts will relocate its office and theater rehearsal space to downtown Saint Paul beginning in July. Currently located in northeast Minneapolis, Mu will take up residence in the Lowry Building.

The move is a major step for the organization, which is now the third largest Asian American performing arts company in the United States. “Over the past five years, Mu has been growing so steadily that we have outgrown our existing facilities,” explains Artistic Director Rick Shiomi.

Currently, Mu’s theater and Japanese taiko drumming programs share a rehearsal space. The move doubles that rehearsal capacity by devoting a location exclusively to theater. Taiko programs will continue at the existing Minneapolis location.

Shiomi looks forward to the expansion and its potential to give Mu increased presence throughout the Twin Cities. “This is an exciting move for us because we become even more a part of the St. Paul arts scene while still keeping our taiko activities in Minneapolis. We hope to get the best of both cities and truly reflect the twin identities of our community.”

Mu Performing Arts was founded in 1997 and performs mainstage theater, taiko, and outreach programs reflective of the Asian American experience in Minnesota and around the country.
