NWAAT offers Butoh workshop

Joan Laage, Artistic Director of Dappin' Butoh and Antonio Delbenes,
sponsored by Northwest Asian American Theatre, will organize workshops
taught by Japanes Butoh artist Itto Morita and his assistant Mika Takeuchi.
Itto first attended an intensive by Sankai Juku dancer Semimaru in 1988, and
then became a member of the Butoh dance troupe Kobuzoku ARUTAI. He and
Takeuchi started the duo GooSayTen in 1995. Based in Sapporo in Japan's
most northern island, he is a full-time associate professor of Hokkaido
Institute of Technology whose concentration is studying the mind-body
relationship from a psychological point of view. His workshops will include
relaxation methods influenced by the psychosomatic systems of M. Noguchi and
T. Takeuchi that have formed the basis for Butoh training for over two
decades.

Workshops:
May 13 6:30-10 pm, Seattle Mime Theatre, Oddsfellows Hall, 10th & E. Pine
May 14 6:30-10 pm Crow Studio, Oddfellows Hall, 10th & E Pine
May 17 7:30-10 pm University Heights, 50th St. & University Way, U-District

Cost: 13th & 14th $20 (one night)/$30 (both nights)
17th $10

The workshop on the 17th is limited enrollment and will concentrate on
Itto's relaxation methods. He encourages people to attend who might not be
interested in Butoh as a performing art, but are particularly interested in
psychosomatic studies and relaxation techniques.
