NWAAT opens apps for A-Fest 2000
The Northwest Asian American Theatre is now accepting applications for our 10th annual A-Fest (formerly known as Winterfest), a multi-disciplinary festival of Asian Pacific American and Asian work, which will run May 18 - 28, 2000. The two-week festival will present 10 - 14 artists and groups over 8 nights, in NWAAT's home at the Theatre Off-Jackson in Seattle's International District. The festival encompasses theatre, dance, music, performance art and multi-discipinary work. A-Fest is a unique opportunity for API American and Asian artists to present new and experimental work in a concentrated festival format. NWAAT's annual festival began in 1990 as a vehicle for Seattle Asian American artists and groups to present their work. A-Fest has since grown into an international phenomenon presenting the work of innovative Seattle groups and artists such as The Young Composers Collective and Susie Kozawa alongside cutting-edge Asian groups such as the Japanese butoh performance duo, Goo Say Ten. Bi-annually, NWAAT presents a world premiere multi-disciplinary work in A-Fest; the culmination of a year-long collaboration between artists involved in our International Artists Program. In A-Fest 2000, we will premiere a new multi-media dance theatre work created by Malaysian choreographer Mew Chang-Tsing and Seattle filmmaker John Pai. Applications are available at Northwest Asian American Theatre offices atTheatre Off Jackson, 409 7th Avenue South, Seattle; or send a self addressed, stamped envelope to:
