OPEN CALL FOR PERFORMERS

for the 27th Annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Festival on May 7th, 2006 is now open.

The day-long celebration of Asian Pacific American culture and community will feature a live Music & Dance Showcase, historical exhibit, children's activity programs, martial arts demonstrations, traditional craft workshops, a food court, and over 130 Asian and Asian Pacific American related booths. The event has a history of high media coverage featured in the New York Times, Newsday, the Village Voice, TimeOut Magazine, NY1 News, and many ethnic papers.

On May 7th, 2006 from noon - 6pm, selected performing arts groups will perform in front of an audience of over 10,000 on the main stage in Union Square Park. We are currently seeking submissions from Asian or Asian-American artists and companies working in music and/or dance, including folk, traditional, and contemporary expressions. Each performance showcase must ! be appropriate for a family-oriented, 15-minute presentation on an outdoor stage and is paid a honorarium. Basic sound equipment and a table for flyer distribution/merchandising will be made available (each act will be responsible for its own inventory and payment collection).

As CAPA strives to present a broad spectrum of quality acts from different Asian cultures in a 6-hour time span, slots are extremely limited and carefully selected by our Performance Committee. To submit, please mail complete contact information and a press kit including a biography, past performances list, and a copy of a DVD or VCD video disc (DVD-video, mpeg, or avi format) of a recent performance with at least 5 minutes of highlights. The video will be the primary tool to evaluate submissions. Supplementary CD recordings, photographs and letters of recommendation are also accepted. Press kits and videos will not be returned.

Submissions must be received in-hand by Friday, February 17th, 2006. Late entries will not be considered for selection.

The Performance Committee will meet shortly thereafter to select the final acts and inform all groups of its decision by mid-March.

Please mail submissions to:
