Vietnamese American play makes New Work Festival
Playwrights Initiative presents the First Annual New Works Festival at the 24th Street Theater in Los Angeles.
Opening for a four week run on Thursday, April 1, 1999, the festival is comprised of four original, full-length productions:
"Ten Men" a tragicomedy by Jeff Rohrick
After one of their childhood mentors disappears, seven estranged friends must decide whether to return to a familiar past, anchored by the memories of a neighborhood grocery store, or move into an uncertain future.
The Imperfect Daughter a drama by Steve Bolia
Three Vietnamese sisters harboring secrets confront their past and their mother--a woman with a few secrets of her own.
"The Baka" by Maurice Brown
Set in the backwaters of New Orleans during the 1940s, "The Baka" tracks a disillusioned detective as he turns to a local voodoo priestess for help in solving a series of mysterious killings.
"N.Y.H.C." by Barry Levine
Venture through New York's hardcore punk underground as playwright Levine explores two generations of a punk family's lives.
Performance schedule:
Thursdays through Sundays at 8pm
Sunday matinees at 2pm
Special matinee performance on Saturday, April 3 at 2pm for "Ten Men"
No matinee on April 4, Easter Sunday
