CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

PRINCIPLES:
VICTOR WOO. 20's. Asian American male. Pop/R&B tenor. Sweetly naïve & optimistic. Slender build. An idealist who transitions from a gawky/awkward teenager to emerging "American pop star singer/songwriter". Struggles to prove himself while confronting family and cultural expectations. Piano and/or guitar skills a plus. Plays himself as a young teenager in Act 1.

STANLEY WOO. 40 - 50. Asian American male. Baritone. Very Strong Actor. Hard working chinese immigrant and dedicated father to Victor. A realist who is acutely aware of racial politics and ethnic stereotyping. He becomes disillusioned by the "American Dream" when Victor choses to pursue a non-traditional career path. Piano skills a plus, but not necessary.

GRACE WOO. 40-50. Asian American female. Warm mezzo. Mother to Victor. Soft spoken and sweet, but can be very firm and strong when needed. Fiercely supportive of her husband yet doesn't have a burning desire or will to "fight the system".

HENRY. 20's Asian American Male. Pop/R&B Baritone. Medium build. More "rough-around-the-edges" and "tough guy" than Victor. Can come across as pessimistic or having a "chip on shoulder" attitude, yet has a big big heart underneath it all. Becomes Victors best childhood friend. Plays himself as a young teenager in Act 1.

MICHELLE. 20's. Asian American female. Pop/R&B Mezzo. Lovable, outgoing, girl next door with "personality". Becomes best friends with Victor and Henry. Comes from a mixed race (Asian/Latino) family. Plays herself as a young teenager in Act 1.

MC. 20's. African American male. Soulful Baritone. Young, energetic and hip while also cool and detached. "Star" charismatic persona. Represents the ideals of pop stardom and provides a Greek chorus-like commentary throughout the show.

WOMEN. 20's (preferably of a minority race, but open to all possibilities). Soulful, warm R&B/Pop sound. Young, energetic and hip but with a mature persona. Much like the MC yet with a warm, guiding light-type compassion towards Victor. Also provides a Greek chorus-
like commentary throughout the show.

ENSEMBLE:
20's - 40's. Any ethnicity. Males and females. Seeking different types and personalities of strong singers who move well and strong dancers who sing well. R&B/Pop voices of all types. The ensemble performs throughout the show in multiple roles.
