Pork Filled Players Salute Asian Pacific Heritage Month

For one weekend only, the Pork Filled Players gives their 21-gun (and one digit) salute to Asian Pacific Heritage Month in Model Minority 101, May 20 to 22, at the Theatre Off Jackson (409 7th. Ave. S.) in Seattle's historic International District.

Washington's premier Asian American sketch comedy group probes the irreverent side of being Asian/Pacific Islanders in America, digging up and exposing to the harsh light of day all the odds and ends of Asian/Pacific American culture that neither white OR yellow folks want you to know.

Overly PC ethnic actors, game shows testing Asian IQ and the grooming secrets of Asian American men are all grist for the mill for the Players as they teach all the things that are never covered in class (but really need to be known) about America's fastest growing ethnic group.

PFP veterans Chrissy Chin, Mok Moser, Edward Tonai, Christian Ver and Yvette Zaepfel join newcomer Jackie Wong to present this madcap mix of music, slapstick and mayhem (and they can only hope that nobody from the Bush Administration catches a whiff of any of it).

Shows on Friday and Saturday are at 8 pm, with a special Sunday matinee at 4:30 pm (so Ichiro can sneak over to catch a show after whacking the San Diego Padres). Tickets are $12 general and $9 student/senior, and can be purchased online at www.ticketwindowonline.com (206/325-6500).

Since 1997, Pork Filled Players have made their assault on Northwest audiences, presenting underexposed and overlooked aspects of Asian Pacific American culture through thought provoking original material. The offbeat is made accessible to diverse audiences, using original madcap (though not necessarily zany) material, as PFP takes potshots at all aspects of 21st Century life in America.
