Pork Filled Productions is proud to present The Clockwork Professor, a world premiere play by Maggie Lee, directed by Amy Poisson (These Streets), at the Theatre Off Jackson (409 7th Ave. S., Seattle), from July 12 to August 3, 2013. Professor Pemberton is a humble inventor, a quiet man of science. As political unrest sweeps over the great city of New Providence, buried secrets from his past threaten to destroy everything that he holds dear, and perhaps even the Crown itself! Come join The Clockwork Professor on this action-packed adventure of fantastical science fiction with a steampunk twist! Produced in association with the Theatre Off Jackson, The Clockwork Professor assembles an amazing multicultural cast, a visionary design team, and enough twists and turns to tantalize even the stodgiest scoundrels. Shows run Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm, with a Pay-What-You-Can industry night on Monday, July 29. "Clockwork is a great fit for us," says Artistic Director Roger Tang. "Science fiction is a genre our theatre group naturally gravitates toward as a personal interest. Seattle is often called the steampunk capital of the world, so the show is also a great fit for the city. We've already had some incredible support from the community--we were even lucky enough to have Phil Foglio, a world-renowned steampunk artist who lives in Seattle, design our poster. "It's our 15th year of making theatre and we’re looking to tackle a challenge. We want to redefine the notion of what Asian American theatre is capable of. And it’s only fitting to produce The Clockwork Professor at Theatre Off Jackson--since Pork Filled began as Artists in Residence at TOJ back in 1998, it's coming full circle for us to return with Maggie as an Artist in Residence there for a world premiere of her work." Playwright Maggie Lee is the lead writer, as well as a performer, producer and panda wrangler for Pork Filled Players, the sketch comedy counterpart of Pork Filled Productions. She designs lights, props and puppets for many local theaters. Her plays reflect her love of comedy, fantastical science fiction and horror. Past shows include H.P. Lovecraft adaptations at Open Circle Theater, Balagan Theatre’s collaborative park shows Greetings from Styx and King Arthur and the Knights of the Playground, 14/48, Kindred Spirits at ReAct Theatre, and The Sunshower Bride for Live Girls! Pork Filled Productions is the theater offshoot of the long-running Seattle sketch comedy group, The Pork Filled Players. The group provides opportunities for Asian American theatre artists to create exciting new full-length plays that redefine the perceptions of typical Asian American theatre. Our shows reflect the diversity, imagination and creativity of modern Asian American artists, including supernatural comedies (Big Hunk o' Burnin' Love by Prince Gomolvilas), mistaken race farces (Yellow Face by David Henry Hwang), and yes, even Kung-fu zombie Shakespeare (Living Dead in Denmark by Qui Nguyen). Producers are Narea Kang, Maggie Lee, May Nguyen, and Roger Tang. The Clockwork Professor is supported in part by 4Culture and the Office of Arts & Culture Seattle.
