Pork Filled Players are Won Ton of Love

The Pork Filled Players (PFP), Seattle's second newest multicultural comedy group, takes on love in their new sketch comedy show, Won Ton of Love (Love, Relationships and Other Disasters), February 6 through 21, 1999, at the historic Nippon Kan Theatre (628 S. Washington) in Seattle's International District.

The Pork Filled Players continue their run as resident artists at the Northwest Asian American Theatre (NWAAT) with another traditional, seasonal show, celebrating the Valentine's season by looking at love.

Won Ton takes a jaundiced look at the poet's favorite emotion, performing an image make over of Cupid, looking at love in a cereal box and, of course, examining internet love.

Joining the group for the first time are Kristing Bennett, Jillian Boyd, Dustin Chin and Garrett Penwell. They joins the usual bands of nuts, which includes founder/producer/writer Roger Tang, director Leilani Wollam and veterans Mona Leach, Daniel Arreola and Eric de los Santos.

Performances of Won Ton of Love are at 11 pm Friday and Saturday nights (following performances of West Side Story by NWAAT), at 4 pm on Sunday afternoons (before West Side Story) and a special 7:30 pm show on February 17 (nowhere near West Side Story).

Ticket prices for Won Ton of Love will be $6 general admission and $5 for students and seniors. People attending West Side Story can also see Won Ton the same night at a $2 discount. Reservations can be made by calling the Northwest Asian American Theatre at 206/340-1049.

The Pork Filled Players is Seattle's close approximation of an multicultural sketch comedy group. As artists in residence at NWAAT, they use their own original madcap (though not necessarily zany) material to aim pointed barbs at sacred cows, the bees knees, the cat's meow and other non-porcine material in the world. The bastard offspring of comedy group OPM and NWAAT’s cabaret 11:07 Late Night (neither group will take responsibility), PFP has their own take on modern life, writing their own sketches, which are suitable for all ages, races, sexual orientation and interests (with the possible exception of Chicago Cubs fans).

The Northwest Asian American Theatre is the premier Asian American theatre in the Northwest and is the second oldest on the continent. It is now entering its 26th season.
