Portland TaikoExecutive Director PositionPosition OverviewPortland Taiko seeks a full-time Executive Director to lead this dynamic and thriving nonprofit performing arts organization. Portland Taiko is a nationally-recognized leader in the art form of taiko (Japanese drum) with a $500k budget dedicated to achieving its mission: “through artistic excellence and innovation in taiko, we inspire audiences, affirm Asian American pride, build community, and educate about our heritage and culture.” Portland Taiko shares Asian American drum performance with over 70,000 people a year through national touring, a self-presented home season, school and community outreach, and workshops and classes for kids and adults. The group has a solid and growing individual donor base, balanced earned and contributed income, and a robust reserve fund, having never run a deficit in its ten-year history. The Executive Director will direct and coordinate Portland Taiko’s programs and activities, collaborate with Board of Directors in strategic and financial planning, maintain and develop the financial resources for the organization’s operations, manage Portland Taiko finances, and supervise a staff of six. A key supervisory role will be to oversee and facilitate the work of Portland Taiko’s Creative Director (primarily responsible for artistic direction) and Programming Director (primarily responsible for community outreach and audience development direction), managing and maximizing the synergistic relationship between artistic excellence and community-based work that is at the heart of Portland Taiko’s mission. $42,500-$47,500 salary, plus medical/dental benefits and SEP retirement plan. RequirementsApplicant should have 5-10+ years of leadership experience demonstrating strong leadership and management skills in a nonprofit context, excellent written and oral communication skills, a proven track-record of effective nonprofit strategic management, extensive and successful fundraising experience, history of sound financial management, proven capacity for collaboration, and a passion for community-based performing arts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background with the Asian American community and experience in an arts organization.
