Performance Workshop facilitated by Denise Uyehara

WHEN:
Sunday, November 13, 2005 , 1  mtg.
10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

WHERE:
Los Angeles:  Museum of Contemporary Art & REDCAT, Disney Hall

DESCRIPTION:
In his series, The Beetle Trilogy, artist Damián Ortega creates a story representing the cycle of life through performance. This daylong course leads participants through the basic concepts of performance while exploring their own cycles of life. The day begins with tours of both MOCA and the partnering REDCAT exhibitions featuring Ortega’s work, followed by a workshop and discussion at MOCA’s auditorium. Working in small groups, participants will take part in a series of exercises to generate performance and installation with life cycle’s as a central theme, culminating into a conceptually intertwined “mini-showing” at the day’s end. Participants connect patterns from their own life with larger patterns of social organization, finding new or altered methods to represent these cycles through objects, movement and lines of text. Participants should bring an object that makes them think of life, death or repitition. Object should NOT beexpensive or of sentimental value to the participant, and should be something they are willing to share or trade with others in the class.
